Q&A with Jeremy Mendelsohn on Success
Jeremy, how do you personally define success?
To me, success isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about the impact you have on the people around you and the lasting memories you create. In my work, it’s seeing the joy and excitement that our travel experiences bring to students. On a personal level, success means being fulfilled, growing as a person, and staying true to my values.
What would you say has been your biggest success so far?
Building TravelZeeky from the ground up was a huge success for me. At 24, I had this idea, and seeing it grow into a company that handled over 1,000 events was incredible. But beyond the financials, the real success was knowing I could take an idea, work hard, and turn it into something meaningful.
In your opinion, what are the most important qualities to achieve success?
Dedication, resilience, and a positive attitude. You need to be willing to work hard, even when things get tough. There will always be setbacks, but if you stay committed and approach challenges with a positive mindset, you’ll find a way to overcome them. Communication, honesty, and punctuality are also key – they build trust and strong relationships, which are essential in any business.
How do you stay motivated when things don’t go as planned?
I remind myself why I started in the first place. During COVID-19, when our events were canceled, it was tough. But instead of giving up, I looked for new opportunities, like hosting at-home events. I stayed focused, adapted, and kept pushing forward. That mindset of always looking for solutions is what keeps me moving toward success.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to achieve success but doesn’t know where to start?
Start by setting clear goals. Know what you want to achieve, but be flexible in how you get there. Success isn’t a straight line. It’s important to stay open to learning and growth. Surround yourself with positive influences, work hard, and never be afraid to take risks. And remember, success isn’t just about reaching the end goal; it’s about the journey and who you become along the way.
How do you measure success now compared to when you first started?
When I first started, I focused on financial goals and numbers. Now, I measure success by the relationships I’ve built, the experiences I’ve created, and the impact I’ve made on others. It’s more about the legacy you leave behind than the revenue you generate.
How do you handle failure on your path to success?
I see failure as a learning opportunity rather than a setback. Every time I’ve faced a challenge, it’s taught me something valuable. When I started TravelZeeky, there were moments when things didn’t go as planned, but instead of getting discouraged, I analyzed what went wrong and used that knowledge to improve. Success isn’t about never failing; it’s about how you bounce back and grow from those experiences.
How do you balance achieving success with maintaining your well-being?
Balance is incredibly important to me. Success can become overwhelming if you let it consume you. I make time to travel, connect with loved ones, and engage in activities that recharge me. I believe that mental well-being directly impacts performance. If you’re not taking care of yourself, it’s hard to sustain long-term success. That’s why I prioritize self-care and make sure that I’m not just working hard but also living a fulfilling life.
How do you set goals to ensure you’re always moving toward success?
I set both short-term and long-term goals and track my progress regularly. This helps me stay focused and motivated. I always start by identifying the most important objectives and breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps. This approach allows me to tackle challenges one at a time and measure my success along the way. It’s crucial to be clear about your goals but also flexible enough to adapt if circumstances change. This keeps me on the right path without getting discouraged by obstacles.
Finally, what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned about success?
Success is not about knowing everything – it’s about always being willing to learn. It’s about balancing your professional life with personal growth and experiences. The most successful people I know are those who keep an open mind, adapt, and never lose sight of what really matters. It’s about making a difference and enjoying the journey along the way.
