Absolutely, the transition from South Africa to Canada in ’86 marked a pivotal chapter in my life. Adapting to Canadian culture was an enriching challenging experience, one that I’ve wholeheartedly embraced. Now, with a family of three children and a grandchild, Canada is very much home.
Outside of work, what activities do you engage in to unwind and relax?
My leisure time is filled with activities that energize me. I’m passionate about fitness, so hitting the gym is a routine. Golfing offers me a mix of relaxation and challenge. I also enjoy savoring a good scotch. Football, particularly European leagues, captivates me, and cheering for Liverpool is a fervent hobby.

My time at the University of Witwatersrand was foundational, shaping my analytical skills and understanding of finance & accounting. Earning my Bachelor of Accountancy there set the stage for my professional journey, grounding me in principles I apply to this day.
Reflecting on your significant contributions to the commission advance industry in Canada, what aspects of your role were most fulfilling?
The diversity of my role was incredibly fulfilling. Spearheading technology initiatives, crafting marketing strategies, and enhancing customer service were all in a day’s work. The synergy of these elements drove our operational efficiency and deepened our client relationships, which I found immensely rewarding. Helping my clients grow their businesses has been very rewarding and a great long term relationship building experience.
What challenges did you face in the early stages of your career, and how did you overcome them?
The initial challenges were manifold, especially adapting to a new business culture in Canada. Navigating the nuances of the Canadian market required patience and a willingness to learn continuously. I overcame these obstacles by embracing mentorship, staying adaptable, and maintaining a steadfast commitment to my goals, which helped me to not only adapt but thrive in my new environment.

Staying abreast of industry trends is crucial in our dynamic field. I regularly engage with industry literature, attend webinars, and participate in professional networks – and try to talk with as many people in the industry as possible all the time. The emergence of technology innovations has significantly influenced my approach, prompting a more technology-driven strategy in operations and client interactions. This has been key to staying competitive and delivering value in today’s fast-paced market.
Finally, what does success look like to you?
True success transcends the financial dimension. To me, it’s about attaining happiness and contentment. It’s the liberty to live life on your own terms, pursuing what genuinely fulfills you. That’s the essence of success in my eyes.
